Artist's Comments

I know +suzi9mm has already established the popularity of blood in photos so I couldn't resist posting my own, although I find this to be less controversial because it's just one drop. Plus it's animal blood on a machete, reflecting life on a farm where you end up dealing with death.

For city folks it can be disturbing having to kill a chicken or even worse, a pig. I remember my grandma pointing out a chicken for us to catch for dinner. Then she'd cut off its neck and drain the blood. Sometimes the chicken would escape and the flop around, doing acrobatic flips 6 feet in the air, blood spurting all over the place from its headless neck. Sure, it might have been disturbing but it wasn't done for fun but happened on accident.

Now the demise of a pig at the hands of a farmer is something you hope you never see, more especially hear. The squeals and scream are enough to give you nightmares for weeks. Thus the decision of most farmers to kill pigs when their children aren't around as it can be a nauseating experience.

i like this shot.... but i love your comment!!

i see chicken faces of death when i go back to my home town in summer time... as for the shot... i think the blur fading out up to down is cool... but after that i think you've added some blur at the lower side of the shot... i just thought keeping it without the blur at the buttom would make it more artistic ;)

nice shot over all...

i used the super macro function which gives a focal range of about an inch if not less... so it's always a small amount of in-focus elements that i end up with.

i witnessed both of those things when i was younger. till this day i still remember seing the blood from the pigs throat all over the wall (yes the wall. it was a lot of pressure) i totally hated it -_- and i can't stand eating pig's meat. blargh

but i love the way the machete is blurred and only the tip is remarkably sharp:)
