I was experimenting with an orange, throwing it against the water with one hand while holding the camera with the other. The effects were awesome, especially the splashes that seemed like a bomb going off underwater.
I timed the shots by trying it various times. I had to press the shutter button about the same time I was throwing it so it was a bit tricky. After various attempts, this came out the best.
Aesthetically I found this photo to be pleasing, not only because of the complementary colors of orange and blue, but also the splash formation in the middle.
This photo might be the basis for the next contest. Just a couple ideas come to mind.
when i saw the title, i said, "i just have to see this."
it still fits, but in a different way than i had in my mind... nevertheless, you're right about the colors and the splashy splashy...
darn... almost 1am... i'm going .. but i honestly like this one... i hope i have enough nerve to make time to prepare for the next contest when it does come out.
I know what you've been through to do this, so I'll simply and elegantly say good work!
Water can act really strangely sometimes, believe me: objects bouncing off, drops splashing around and wetting your lenses, drops in midair just waiting for you to photograph them, impacts just about to happend, etc etc
The contrast is great. It's hard to tell what the orange is without the title of the photograph, but that's ok. It doesn't make it any less pleasing to the eye.
I love the center, where the water looks almost like ice shards with the sharpness to them. Great capture.

Ooh, must have been hard to keep the hand with the camera steady. Great shot, but I think the orange looks slightly too small, it should take up more room. Otherwise, great work!

You find me ready if you set up a contest on this
