What country has the most expensive cocaine?

The street price of cocaine varies hugely across the world. No surprise that it is cheapest in Colombia, the world's biggest producer of coca: at $2, a gram costs less than a Big Mac. Geography is an obvious price factor. The farther away a country from the main producers in South and Central America, and the more isolated it is, the higher the cost to traffick there. In far-flung New Zealand, a gram costs a wallet-busting $714.30.

But there are some pricing anomalies. Although the street price in Japan is several times higher than in Israel, Germany and Britain, the wholesale price in the countries is similar, around $46.40. In Canada the wholesale price is 50% more than in America, but Canadians pay 40% less on the street. It could be that policing is more zealous in some countries, or that there is less competition among suppliers.

From The Economist

Can you imagine paying $714 dollars for a gram of cocaine in Hobbit-land? No wonder Gandalf smoked pot.

In a related question, would you do drugs if it was legal?

Ugh.. this stuff gives Colombia such a bad name.

And people seem to think its just.. on every corner, in every shop, everyone does it. Of course.

No.. even in Colombia its illegal. And even in Colombia not everyone is doing coke.

:(

yeah, it's a tough reputation, but considering that the majority of the world's cocaine is produced there (75% to be exact)

see [link]

It's sad and tough on the govt there to stop it but they seem to be progressing really well in the last years with Uribe.

In our "neighborhood" (I live in Cairo,) drug dealers are nothing unusual after 12 am. They serve as a second- or third-level distribution point (higher-level ones are not for end-users) Bango is probably the most widely used drug. Pricing was around $1-$2 per joint a couple of years ago (it might have changed radically though as I'm not following.) Dedicated users grow their own mini-farms at home. Usually the police is viewed as an annoyance but no show stopper. Bribes, profit splitting or direct consumption by them are all viable means to make them "less annoying." Usage seem to be evenly distributed across higher, middle and low classes (financially speaking.) It's good education is what makes the difference, no matter being in any class.

Nevertheless, I never did a drug of any kind or drank an alcoholic beverage of any intensity.

Definitely education is a key factor in exposing the dangers of drugs and the high price you pay both literally and figuratively for getting addicted to them.

Are you Egyptian?
